Shirley Manson and company continues to prove again and again that they are no one hit album wonder. Beautiful Garbage finds the group experimenting on newer variations of their already splendid blend of pop grunge. The one standout of this album is Can't Cry These Tears Anymore, which has a mesmerizing and catchy 60's girl group meets grunge princess combo. It is the best song the Supremes never did recorded, assuming the Supremes were still around today. Parade finds Garbage at their pop best. This song typifies the Garbage sound, part pop pleasure and youthful dynamism. Drive You Home is soft Garbage, a haunting and sad melody which never gets too sappy, and ends when it supposed to. So Like a Rose is another winner, both atmospheric and profound. Shirley's voice is clearly evolving, as well as her singing style. Unlike their previous albums, this album does not stress too much the sound of rock guitars, and instead makes a concerted effort in exposing the listener to strong melodies which are both memorable and refreshing. This is perhaps Garbage's best album to date. There is not one bad track in it. Highly recommended.
