Garth Brooks

Double Live

Brooks is great live

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
For any other artist, this would have been great. But Garth has set a pretty high standard in the past, and he didn't quite live up to it on this one. The radio versions of "The Thunder Rolls" and "Friends In Low Places" live that have been played for years now are much better than the ones on the album. Plus, they cut out too much crowd noise and dressed up the songs way too much. One of the best parts about a Garth show is the rawness of it all. But there are some good moments. "Unanswered Prayers" is pretty hard to destroy, no matter what. "The Fever" went pretty well. "Ain't Goin' Down 'Til The Sun Comes Up" was obviously the track from his huge Texas Stadium special, which I thought was really cool. "Wild As The Wind" and "It's Your Song" were masterpieces. But then, even the order of the songs is much different than the way his concerts usually go. He had a lot of songs at the very beginning that he normally only does far into the show. It killed a lot of the effect. I'm hoping someday they'll re-release this with different versions of the songs or something. Fat chance, but it would be nice.
