Good - But Not Great

When I knew that this was Garth's first album in five years, and possibly his last, my expectations were high, but now I'm wondering whether that long break was a good idea, because he seems to have almost lost his touch.
I'm not going to bother commenting on which songs are country and which aren't because I think that argument is really starting to get tired now, so I'm just going to concentrate on the quality of the music - which as it happens isn't all that good.
Upon first listening to this album, and hearing the first words of 'Why Ain't I Running', one thing struck me - how much Garth's voice has changed, his old deep sounding voice has been replaced by a high-pitched rasp, he sounds like an old man (let me get this right, this is his first album in FIVE years, not FIFTY??)
As for the song, it's quite a good one. 'Beer Run' is good but has been done so many times before. 'Wrapped Up In You' is the perfect example of what I would call a 'nothing song'. 'The Storm' - at last we have a great song. And so it carries on - average songs with a good one only every now and then. This isn't the Garth Brooks I know.
Maybe I was expecting too much, but this album really didn't do anything for me.
This is by no means a bad album, there are moments of real brilliance, but by Garth's standards this really is very average and quite dissapointing.
