There are a few good tracks but much of this dross is bland filler.
First the high points; Abacab is possibly the best track on the album,mostly an instrumental recalling the days of early Genesis,but in a more simple, streamlined approach.` No reply at all is an unusual track for Genesis to do,albeit an innovative idea to utilize the horns of earth Wind and Fire. `Me and sara Jane' is gentle ,galloping ballad .
But after all of this, the material is eminently forgettable; Dodo/Lurker has some of the worst lyrics such as Darth Vader/agitator. Where was the poetry of the early genesis albums such as Selling England by The pound,or even the early Phil collins era Genesis such as `A Trick of the Tail' It tries to be sonically impressive but it`s like fireworks, the instrumentation tries to be grand,but after a couple of minutes,you are bored and ready to move on.
Whodunnit is possibly the worst track genesis ever recorded.It`s an embarassing attempt at punk rock and a track the cd skip facility device was intended for.`Like it or Not and `Another record' are merely ho-hum,nothing distinguishable.
This is a very bland, disposable record. tony Banks stated at the time of this record that their intention on this album was not to make music that was lasting,but music to be liked here and now. That remark is definitely telling.
