This is the kind of album that makes me see that there are intelligent life in pop music. I used to be one of these people that thinks that all kinds of pop music stinks, but I was really wrong about that. I started to discover Genesis, getting their Greatest Hits, and then, for a recommendation of a friend, getting the prog releases first, but never realized that it was Genesis that made the incredible hit MAMA. Then, I started to search for the album with that song, and I end up finding all their releases. Abacab is the first one where Genesis looks for softest melodies and a more pop music direction. And in my opinion is a real gem. The best ones here are ABACAB, NO REPLY AT ALL, DODO/LURKER, LIKE IT OR NOT and ANOTHER RECORD. Getting the Phil Collins pop influences and the excellent ideas that Mike was working in Mike And the Mechanics was a pretty good idea to survive in the 80's. The songs are very daring and since these days remains listenable and actual. One of their very best work like a pop trio (the other one for me is We Can't Dance)!
