No band has meant more to my development as a professional musician than Genesis, in all of it's incarnations. The original five-man line up could be epic, smart, and ambitious, but let's face it, as musicians they couldn't compete with the likes of the '73-'74 Crimson or any version of Yes. The four-man Genesis made good on the individual instrumental promises of the Gabriel-era Genesis, but somewhat lacked the cohesive progressive feel of the earlier band. After two haphazard albums, the trio version of Genesis showed us the band's most authoritative and musical statement with Abacab. This is Progressive Pop at it's finest. The tunnel-visioned need not apply.
