Genesis

And Then There Were Three

Great!!

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
Excellent album. With ATTW3, Genesis began its mid-'70s transition from a 4-piece to a trio with the departure of guitarist Steve Hackett, with Mike Rutheford doing double duty on guitar and bass. Phil Collins's pop songwriting began to take a more prominent role, but this album is still chock-full of the wonderfully complex, yet beautifully melodic progressive and symphonic rock that these guys are the undisputed kings of. Tony Banks's amazing keyboard work, always the bedrock of the band's trademark sound, is in top form on this album. The set opens with the thunderous, beautiful fanfare of "Down and Out" and holds the listener spellbound for the balance of the album. Highly recommended for fans of intelligent rock.
