Genesis

Duke

I like some of it heaps

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
I was originally going to give this album three stars but I realised that the songs that I like, I REALLY like. Turn it on again is a great pop song that actually has an interesting melody. Alone tonight is a great pop song, too. But my favourite three songs are Please don't ask, a ballad that I find entrancing and then the two instrumentals. Duke's travels builds up to a dramatic finale, and then Duke's end reprsises the amazing instrumental music that was featured at the start of 'Behind the lines'. The intro to that song must be one of the best prog riffs ever! The instrumentation throughout the album is rather courtly, as you would expect from an album called 'Duke'. 'Misunderstanding' is also a cool pop song. The other songs I haven't mentioned I personally am not so fond of. 'Man of our times' buries Phil's vocals too far under the instruments for my tastes. I like Duchess, though, that's a great prog song.
That's all I need to say, really.
