Wind & Wuthering, Genesis's second album with Phil Collins as lead singer is an absolutely beautiful album. I'm still in the beginning stages of digging into the early recordings of this incredible band so I can't really compare this to the Peter Gabriel era albums but what I can say is that Wind & Wuthering is a great album. Sure the production can be a bit muddy at times but brushing that aside this 1976 album is truly inspiring and has a mysterious quality. The album cover art with the grey sky & and brown leaves sets the general mood of the album. While it might not quite rank as high as Trick Of The Tail or Invisible Touch IMO it truly is arty and creative. Sometimes I even would like to take a break from the slickness of Invisible Touch(Don't get me wrong I love that album alot) and listen to the more abtuse LPs. There are some first signs of a few New Wave sounds on a few songs but overall the music is raw and not polished excessively. Some of the tracks especially the bizarre Wot Gorilla? can be a bit too abstract for those whose tastes are more based on Invisible Touch or We Can't Dance fanbase and this CD might not be the best to appreciate for the steadfast 80s or 90s Genesis fanbase but for those who want to get more adventurous this CD is one to have in your Genesis collection. It won't be the easiest album to digest at first but ultimately it will become an indespensible CD in your collection. I personally feel almost like I'm the only one who actually enjoys just about everything by Genesis including this, Trick Of The Tail and then the more polished sounds of Invisible Touch & We Can't Dance and the darker rockier sounds of the swansong Valling All Stations. Genesis truly are among the best bands ever no doubt about it.
