Wind and Wuthering

Art Rock Swan Song

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
"Wind and Wuthering," was the last Genesis album before guitarist Steve Hackett left the fold. It also marks the end of their art rock period. Songs with titles like "Eleventh Earl of Mar" and "Unquiet Slumber for the Sleepers" are typical of the kind of long, drawn out sonic mush that Genesis was known for in the 70s. However, the reletively peppy "Your Own Special Way,' was indicative of where the band was heading. Even though it clocks in at over six minutes in length, you can hear the roots of future Genesis hits like "Follow You, Follow Me," "Misunderstanding," and "No Reply at All" in it.

Overall, "Wind ans Wuthering" is a decent Genesis album, as most of them are. If you're a fan of their 80s pop stuff, however, you might not like it as much.
