The Best of George's Beatles output, plus some solo work
Review Score:

(6/10)
I gave this disk three stars not for the content, but for the packaging and presentation. There are truly some first rate tracks here, with "Something," "Here Comes the Sun," and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." But, while these were penned by George, they are Beatle tracks. (...) Over half the tracks were on Beatles albums, so it kind of diminishes the "Best of..." aspect. Again, don't get me wrong, I love the jangle and harmony of "If I Needed Someone" and the social jibes at English economics on "Taxman."
George's post-Beatles output steps up on tracks 8-13. "My Sweet Lord" may have that Phil Spector over-produced sheen, but it's lush and spiritual and has stood the test of time, plagiarism litigation notwithstanding.
"Give Me Love" is a simpler arrangement, featuring George's smooth slide guitar, a little nod to Bob Dylan with the piano melody, and lyrics sung from the heart.
"Bangla Desh" stands as George's movement into social activism.
"What is Life" from "All Things Must Pass" has a catchy Motown like rhythm and melody and cool fuzz guitar, along with more lush harmonies.
It's a nice collection and an economical introduction to the music of George Harrison, but there are better examples of his solo work, such as the best of set "Dark Horse Years." Perhaps someday a more comprehensive career retrospective will be released.
