for george michael's career retrospective, he pulled out all the stops. not only does this album contain all of his solo hits, but also includes remixes, live cuts, album cuts, one-offs and basically gives the buyer a hell of a lot for his money. the first disc contains all of george's hit ballads such as "careless whisper" and "one more try" in addition to the beautiful "cowboys and angels" (from "listen w/o prejudice" and a stunning cover of bonnie raitt's "i can't make you love me". the steady stream of depressing ballads may wear some out, but for a quick fix, all you have to do is pop in the 2nd disc, which features george's numerous dance hits, including "faith", "freedom" and "fastlove". it also contains the jimmy jam/terry lewis 45 remix of "monkey", a brand new remix of "star people" which utilizes part of the gap band's "burn rubber", and the club smash "hard day". the two new songs "outside" and "a moment with you" are pleasant but by no means indicativ of the high quality of george's previous work. minor issue:presumably in order to keep people buying "faith", george and sony left "i want your sex" off this album, replacing it with te ho-hum "part 2" version of this song, a move which striles me as slightly shady. otherwise, for 2 hours of great music, this album is very highly recommended.
