Grace Jones

Living My Life

Jamaican slicks fused with rock...does it work?

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
Okay so her third release with Dunbar and Shakespeare may not be available, but
It's great nonetheless.
Grace worked for many years as a disco singer; but as disco faded she switched her style to the androgynous character we see today.
In 1980 she hooked up with legendary Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, scheduling three releases "Warm Leatherette" being the first, "Nightclubbing" came in 1981 and finally "Living My Life" arrived in 1982.
Like with the two previous records Grace mainly focused her style on rock learning towards reggae and punk and the first result came with the rhythmic single "My Jamaican Guy" which achieved a fair amount of success, the second single "Nipple to the Bottle" leaned more towards main stream rock fused with Jamaican guitar slicks.
The album result as whole is not perfect nor is it bad, songs like "Inspiration" and "Unlimited Capacity for Love" are great and cracking tunes like "The Apple Stretching" and "Cry Now, Laugh Later" are all fantastic.
Looking at "Living My Life" today I can't understand why the song "Living My Life" was left out? The song was release around the very same time as the album...so why was it excluded?
beats me, but the album remains one of Jones' very best.
Alongside "Inside Story" this remains my absolute favorite.
