Okay, if you`re a English singer-songwriter you`re music doesn`t have to be `English`...after all rock and roll is about white and black, north and South,American and european all mixing up. but speaking as a Brit, Acid Bubblegum has got to be Parker`s worst. he`s lived in the US for around twenty years I presume but when he`s writing about `jello` and `bean counters` and `yoah momma`s good cookin` it`s like those American singers in the sixties pretending to be from Liverpool and singing about pounds shilling and pence. Strangely enough when he was young he took on American culture and won; but that was mainly black soul, here he`s appropriating white,Southern sounds and images and I for one am not convinced. The good songs are four: She never let Me Down,Girl At The end of the Pier,Impenetrable and They Got It Wrong As Usual; which are all a little more sincere and seem to have a basis in late sixties british R and B and blues. With these the production creates agreat mood and atmosphere (all four are slower songs). Of the rest `Bean Counter` sounds like the B52s wiuthout the humour and `Baggage` is dreadful reggae from an artist who has done truly excellent reggae. `Obsessed wtih Aretha` has no real tune and seems to be accusing Aretha Franklin of essentially becoming `whitebread`. Ironic. Hey,trust the customers comments above, two of them are leaders of a website dedicated to Parker and I usually trust their judgment...but five stars...! No way. But they`re American...they`ll love it. We Brits regard this British star as losing his roots...get some Britishness back,Graham
