The Brent MIDI-land album

As a follow-up to In the Dark I feel that this album is of about the same quality. They are all good songs but no real classics. Technically it is very well recorded and reflects the Dead's sound from this era esp. the MIDI sampling. Garcia uses sampling to make his guitar sound like a trumpet. This actually sounded really cool live although it was occasionally overdone. I think it is great that four of the best songs on the album were written and sung by Brent Mydland. He was to die less than a year after Built to Last was released. As far as I know he never released a solo album. Although I was introduced to the Dead through some of their older more classic material, this was the period when I started attending Dead shows and the sound of this period always takes me back to those good times.
