"International Superhits!" compiles all of Green Day's hits from 1994-2000, including two new tracks, "Maria" and "Poprocks & Coke" (the album openers), and "J.A.R. (Jason Andrew Relva)" from the "Angus" movie soundtrack. Spanning 21 tracks and clocking in at just over an hour, the compilation runs chronologically, and serves as a delightful history lesson. Tracking Green Day from "Dookie" through "Warning" marks the progression Green Day has made over the years. Green Day was just one of those bands that arrived at the right time in the mid-90s. Due to a change in pop music at the time, Green Day was able to flourish commercially and artistically. They have stood the test of time and still belt out brilliant albums.
As a hardcore Green Day fan, there isn't much I can complain about here. The huge singles are all in place, "Longview," "Welcome to Paradise," "Basket Case," "When I Come Around," "Brain Stew," "Geek Stink Breath," "Hitchin' a Ride," "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)," "Nice Guys Finish Last," "Minority," and "Warning". Not only are all the big hit singles compiled, but many of the quality album tracks that received airplay are also included, such as "She," "Jaded," "Walking Contradiction," "Redundant," and the rightly picked "Warning" tracks "Waiting" and "Macy's Day Parade".
The only complaint I have about the album, is that they did not include any tracks from 1991's "1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hour" or 1992's "Kerplunk", probably due to licensing issues since those two albums are on Lookout Records, and not Reprise. I think some people would like to hear some stuff from "Kerplunk", such as "2000 Light Years Away", which was featured on the Jerky Boys movie soundtrack, or other brilliant tracks such as "Christie Road" or "One of My Lies".
All and all, this CD is perfect for first time listeners and purchasers of Green Day. It has all that the casual fan would want from Green Day, and that's really who greatest hits CDs are made for.
