When I first got this album as a gift a couple of years ago, it was for the song "Time of Your Life" ("Good Riddance"). That song itself is a classic, and it is one of my favorite songs. However, listeners looking for more like that song might be a little shocked when they hear the rest of the album. It's not tame,(watch out for the f-bomb here and there) but it's a true classic in terms of bands trying something new and succeeding. They keep their punk roots but make what is essentially a rock album, with some excellent electric guitar performances theroughout (check out "The Grouch", "Platypus", "Nice Guys Finish Last"). There is great songwriting here, a variety of subject matter, and Billie Joe Armstrong is at his best. Maybe these guys just grew up a little bit, but this is their best album to date, in my opinion. Perhaps what makes the album itself so great is that it can be listened to again and again, and if you don't like it at first, listen again, keep an open mind...it will make an addict of you and stay in your listening favorites stack of CD's forever. Good job, guys.
