An array of emotions and perspectives on life, love and womanhood. Take "Heart and Shoulder." It combines life and love on a platonic and almost anxious level. When Nova mananages to let the lyrics "...when the night just cuts you through, and the dream is lost to you, when you're worried and confused, I will give you my heart, give you my shoulder..." escape she comments on her inablity to effect the pain of someone for whom she cares about, apparently very deeply. In the album opener "London Rain", Nova musically discusses her barter of love with this certain fortunate gentleman. In "Valley of Sound", Nova describes with deep-rooted urgency and emotion, her infatuation over a potential lover. She gently provides him with an "instruction manual" on how to love her to the fullest and best possible extent. In her ego-inflating "I'm the Girl", Nova for sure lets us know that "she IS the girl" (as if there was any misconception after she compares at length to figures such as Joan of Arc and Medusa)The she moves on to comparisons to old ladies, squaw junkies, muses, good witches, princesses, and whores. She basically covers every base of every woman who has ever lived. For what reason is as mysterious as where MC Hammer's career went. All in all, "Siren" blares all the emotions felt by one, and takes us on a roller-coaster ride of angst, passion, and London Rain.
