A transitional album that is thrashy and emotional

Continuing to mix their doomy style of death metal with more archaic rock forms, Hypocrisy begin to adapt more of their influnces including motorhead, slayer, razor, etc. The result is truely something unique though at times it can be a tad melodramatic. The band is working more and more with choruses, which have begun to showcase Peter's normal singing on a regular basis. In a way this is just as much a rock record as it is a death metal record. The album has a theme story, though I suspect that it wasnt successful due to the general choppiness in the layout of the songs. They are great individually but there is nothing to really unify them other than the story and the genral mood of the album. In a way I think Peter is holding back on this one. He wants to make more slow songs but fits in a few faster numbers in between to avoid loosing his fans. However, with some honestly charismatic and inspiring moments I still give this album 5 stars, since its obvious that Peter is still evolving his band in a focused manner. Its yet another chapter to the hypocrisy story.
