Jon Schaffer has been known not to like this cd. How so!? Yes, it is a different trip for Iced Earth, but the musicianship is tight and the lyrics are really thoughtful. Each song explaining a monster or mythical creature, except track 4 which is about the ghost of a soldier. All these songs have melodies like you wouldn't believe. They are so infectious and at times, very eargasmic. It's a wonder a band now a days could carry on and write music like they do. In a cesspool of fakes and ripoffs, Iced Earth stand above as the only true carriors of the Heavy Metal flag. Jon Schaffer is one of the fastest downpicking guitarists ever. Matt Barlow really shines on this cd, expressing anguish, grief, sadness, anger, and horror (as the title depicts). The thing about Barlow's performances is that they don't sound forced either, which would be very difficult for any other singer. Matt might not have a lot to do with the actual songwriting, but hot damn, this dude can sing like no other. I can't really say anymore about this cd, seeing as how everything has been said. See this guys if they come nearby!!!!!! It's definitely worth it!
