If you have read my reviews before you probably know I'm a big Iced Earth fan. They are probably my favorite american power metal band. I personally feel The Dark Saga was their best release so far with this coming in a close second. On with the review: For those that don't know, HORROR SHOW, is a concept album where each song is based around a classic horror character. So even though there is a general theme running through the whole disc the songs stand on their own as separate entities. The CD kicks of with the ripper "Wolf" which is quite obviously about the nightmare of being a werewolf. "Damien" follows closely after with over 9 minutes of mid tempo atmospheric metal complete with angelic choirs. The opening riff to "Frankenstein" is awesome - simple but very cool rhythm sound! Jon's trademark staccato guiter riffs are abundent. The CD closer, "The Phantom Opera Ghost", is a mixture of Matt's vocals with the female vocals is awesome! The song varies between a ballad and a full on assault. Having said that the real gem here is Ghost of Freedom, which is Iced Earth's Fade to Black. Very haunting lyrics that Matt performs with such emotion. It's an acoustic power ballad with the choir chiming in at 3:54 its incredible. It alone is worth the purchase. Perfect production thru-out. This belongs in every metal fans library.
