Iced Earth is just a great band. They crank out one album after the other of great oldschool style heavy metal. They don't experiment that much, but they're passionate, and they keep their music interesting. Can anyone think of another band like that? I can. AC/DC. Same kinda thing. I don't think Iced Earth is as good as Blind Guardian, but that's only because no one is. IE still ranks high in the metal world.

This is Iced Earth's newest album, and perhaps the most interesting. All the songs are about monsters, but rather than just make an album with "Ooh, scary monsters, rar!", they chose to take a mature approach to it, and actually make horror movie monsters into an intelligent, emotional subject. "Dracula" is a really good example of this. It deals with the oh so important subject of unrequited love. "Jeckyll and Hyde" also, good representation of inner conflicts. After all, most of those horror stories were written with a deeper meaning in mind anyway. More good songs include the very patriotic "Ghost of Freedom", and the amazing duet "The Phantom Opera Ghost". Yunhui Percifeld isn't the best singer, but that's ok. It would have been better with someone like Liv Kristine, or the chick from Nightwish, but oh well. Great musicianship too, especially the drumming. Richard Christy is a god! Oh yeah, great Maiden cover too, but you just can't top the original.

Oh, regarding Matt's vocals, where he supposedly adds "ah" to every word. He really doesn't do it that much, and even when he does, so what? That's called growling, and that's what happens when you growl. Besides, he's a great melodic singer as well, with astonishing range. Few vocalists can match him, and I'm a singer, so I should know.

This album is for anyone who loves the oldschool days of metal. Just caught this band on tour with Jag Panzer and In Flames. What a show! Tour's over now, but when they go out again, you gotta see them, it's really great. Nothing else to say except "Iced Earth!!".
