Iced Earth

Horror Show

Best CD...

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
...well maybe excluding burnt offerings, this is Iced Earth's best CD. I am now i big fan of Iced Earth, and this was the cd that really got me into them, when i downloaded Dracula from Audiogalaxy. Well, after about two listens through, i was blown away. At that time, it was the loudest thing i have ever heard, but still managed to be melodic, and in the beginning, perhaps a tad biyt romantic too. I love vampires and horror creatures, so this cd was deffinetly a winner.
The first track, WOlf is very interesting in the beginning, and quite heavy. But the lyrics are slightly ackward. Not the best track on the cd, but deffinetly a strong one. 8/10
the second track,Damien is one of the strongest on the cd. I love the part where the music slows down, and Matt begins his devily sounding speech. At nine minutes long, this song never gets boring. This is my second favoritetrack on the cd. 11/10
THe third track, Jack, is interesting, and although written on a broing horror figure, certain lyrical passages are really good. "ripped out my emotions, and replaced it with a KNIFE!" Fast drumming, and good riffing too.
Ghost of Freedom was once my favorite song, for a time even better then Dracula. (is that even possible?). It is not heavy at all except for one part in the middle and at the end. It is a patriotic song, and convinced my parents to allow me to see them live... Well the end of that song is very strong, with Matt singing "don't tread on me" for the rest of the song until it dies down. 10/10
Im Ho Tep uses Eastern melodies, and is by itself quite strong. I love the Egyptian flavor, and although i didnt appreiate the lyrics in the beginning as much as i do now, it was always a great song. 9.5/10
jeckyl and Hyde, Dragon's Child, and Frankenstein, all three written on horror figures that interest me less then the others, are all good songs, but do not shine compared to the next rack in the least bit.... 8/10
Track Nine is the best on the CD. Dracula is my favorite character form literacture and movies, (i loved Bram stoker's dracula, both the book and the film directed by Copolla). There was a real lot of work spent on this song, the lyrics are top notch (their is internal ryming in the passages) and draws the most power of all the songs. 15/10.... which isnt possible but whatever!
The phantom Opera Ghost is a very melodic but storng track. I love the prospect of using two vocalists to tell the story of the song's namesake. Though at times the wording is slightly ackward, as a whole the lyrics are excelent, and the sound is simply terrific.10/10
Transylvania is an instrumental, and i belive that it is a cover from Iron Maiden. Well Iced Earth does this song excelently (as usual). You really feel the galloping, and it sounds like you are really in the song's title. 10/10
This is a great CD, and would work perfectly into a horror movie, (with more instrumentals of course). Buy this CD if you like Iced Earth, But it if you like THrash metal. Hell, buy it if you like music at all, you won't be disappointed in the least bit.
