Each song treats the subject as an insightful tortured soul with depth and emotion rather than a goofy, third rate monster from your saturday matinee.
Jon Schaffer has been ranting in some recent interviews about how important he is as the songwriter. He really needs to give credit where credit is due... this bands goes as Matt Barlow goes. Barlow's performance is amazing and will bring the band to the next level. (and he wrote half the lyrics which are the key)
The music is good. Damien and The Phantom Opera Ghost are epic and really draw you in. The solos are decent and the band sounds tight considering the changes that have taken place, but I can't help but feel that I have heard the core riffs before. Perhaps some experimentation is due. Maybe I am just mad because it sometimes seems to me that Jon Schaffer ego's is out of control.
It's a good album. Get it.
