Iced Earth

Horror Show

There's more than Korn in Indiana

Fellow Hoosier and Metal Warrior Jon Schaffer and his current band of comrades have let loose upon this Iced Earth a fine example of precious metal with Horror Show. From the onset, it is distinctly clear that this ensemble is the tightest and most musically cohesive recording unit that Jon has had around. Aside from Matthew Barlow being one of the most underrated vocalists in the genre today, the new rhythm section of Christy and DiGiorgio is as solid as twenty million tons of mountain side, and as thunderous as what it would be if that mountain were to suddenly collapse. Check out the double bass thumping on opener Wolf and the merciless plodding of Damien. Damien, the showcase of the opus, is spitefully menacing, while at the same time quietly brooding with intermittent melody lines that fail to compromise the overall brutality. This is a great example of Jon's drastic maturity in songwriting. Horror show is full of the classic galloping and monolithic riffs that have made the band famous, and all the songs are memorable forming a record that begs to be listened to over and over again. Admittedly, Horror Show is not groundbreaking, nor adventuriously experimental in its formula, but nonetheless it is a classic example of the power of Metal in its truest most honest form. A classic release from a classic American Metal Band. The world has a hero......It's Jon Schaffer.
