Iron maiden fans are a very fervent bunch, but I notice that they're also the first to criticize the hell out of the band when they put out something that the fan doesn't believe is up to par. And sadly, the negative criticism towards the band is NEGATIVE. Hell, tons of "fans" just threw in the towel when Blaze came in without really giving him a chance. Sure, the average person couldn't care less about Iron Maiden and usually sees anything they do as crap anyway, so they don't really count. Fans, however, expect nothing but the best from these guys, I guess that would account for the harsh reviews. Dance Of Death sounds similar in style to Brave New World if you ask me. Some would disagree, coz there are many who like BNW and don't like this, but I think the sound is similar. I do know it certainly doesn't sound like Powerslave. I've been listening to these guys since I was a little tyke in elementary school. They've put out some fantastic albums over the years, and I'm personally willing to let them slide if they don't come out with an album that doesn't knock my socks off like Seventh Son did when it came out. All in all I do like Dance Of Death. It's certainly not the first one I grab when I'm in that Maiden mood, but I do like it a bit more each time I hear it. The first time I listened to it I wasn't very impressed at all, and tried to trick myself into thinking I liked it, but it got shelved for quite some time. But after dusting it off and giving it a chance I have learned to enjoy it. And when you think of the state of metal these days this album seems much better even if it's not up to par. I guess I'd rather hear substandard Maiden over the best of what Trapt has to offer any day. So, is Maiden having a rebirth or are they just washed up? You decide, but at least give it more than one listen before you do.
