Dance of Death

A more optimistic Maiden ?

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (6/10)
A solid metal album from these now " elder statesmen " of heavy metal. While not as impressive as the preceeding, ' Brave New World', this is still a good Maiden release. Standouts are Dance of Death, No More Lies, and Montsegur. The album also has a good ballad in Journeyman. Wildest Dreams should have been left off altogether and although the other songs are somewhat less memorable and innovative they are still solid.
The tone of the album is rather possitive for Iron Maiden but I don't see anything wrong with this. The band are older and presumably wiser now and they may be demonstrating this in their lyrics less sinister content revealing more contentment with life. Of course that's just speculation, but at any rate it still works with their music.
