Disappointed...

They premiered with the engaging and intelligent EMERGENCY ON PLANET EARTH. They reached their creative peak with the beautiful RETURN OF THE SPACE COWBOY. Their sound continued to evolve in refreshing ways with the diverse TRAVELLING WITHOUT MOVING and the playful and driving SYNKRONIZED. But A FUNK ODYSSEY is by far Jamiroquai's most boring and banal release. While there are some good moments, they are interspersed with uninspired melodies and cliche lyrics that are entirely unexpected from a band of this caliber. The album is not bad. But it's pretty average, a word that has never before been a fitting one in describing Jamiroquai. This marks the first time I've ever been disappointed in any way with a Jamiroquai release. Hopefully, JK and the crew can resurrect the funky innovation that once defined their sound.
