Growing up in the house heyday of Chicago ('83--'88 or so), I like this album. I'm not a musician and can't point out the supposedly glaring deficiencies existing due to Zender's departure, but to me, "A Funk Odyssey" is a nice album. "Travelling W/O Moving" was sharp, but I also didn't care too much for "Synchronized". AFO has just as many groovin' tracks as "Travelling" to me--it may lack some of the "emotional content", but it's a nice album to listen to.
