Jamiroquai

Funk Odyssey

A good alternative, but not "A Funk Odyssey".

While I do like this album(it does deserve its 4 stars), I don't think it's an improvement on their prior albums. I fell in love with Jamiroquai because of their "acid jazz" sound; while I'm all for letting their sound evolve and have new elements at least experimented with, I miss their original musical personality. Also, the title is misleading--I'm a huge fan of "funk" as well, and with Jamiroquai's previous acid jazz format, I thought the two styles would blend perfectly. In this, I was disappointed; the first few songs are funky, but the rest has more of a disco vibe--which is fine, but again, misleading. My favorite songs? Basically all of them, but especially Feels So Good and Love Foolosophy; my least favorite was Black Crow, it sounded a little forced. My favorite albums are Synkronized and Travelling Without Moving, but I would recommend this album as a good alternative to all the overrated [stuff]that's so popular now.
