Jay Kay Is Back, But He Flips The Script...
Review Score:

(10/10)
Okay, I'm gonna break it down on how I feel about Jamiroquai's new musical adventure "A Funk Odyssey". This album is great... if you're more of a techno fan, that is (i.e. Daft Punk). Since I like everything from jazz to rock, I can appreciate this album. Of course I gave it 5 stars because I'm a die-hard Jami fan, but I would have to say that if you're stuck in that "Gee, I hope their next release is more "acid jazz" than "electronic"" mode, this isn't for you. It was tough for me to tolerate "Synkronized" because it was a different musical direction than the masterpiece "Travelling Without Moving" but it was a heck of an album when I got used to it. When I first heard "A Funk Oddyssey", I was disappointed because it wasn't what I waited two years for. But like "Synkronized", this is a heck of an album after 3 or 4 listenings. However, the closest thing you'll get to acid jazz is that bridge on "Black Crow" (a song that's cheesy, yet really cool simultaneously). If you DON'T expect to hear another "Space Cowboy", "Mr. Moon" or "Manifest Destiny" because you want something new from Jay Kay & Co., you WILL like this . All in all, I like every single song on here. My top 5 are "Feels So Good" (spacy and robotic), "Little L" (melodic and catchy), "Stop! Don't Panic" (it's like a rock song), "Main Vein" (a disco song with black women on the b.g.v.'s), and "Picture Of My Life" (reminiscent of Antonio Jobim). I kinda wish that the hidden track was more than 2 minutes long though. I'm kinda mad about that because I read that Jay Kay wanted to put more on the album, but his record label nixed that idea. But anyway, if you're a die-hard fan or not, you are guaranteed to like at least one song on here. C'mon, it's Jay Kay for crying out loud!
