No disappointment here

It's pretty unfair to expect a CD to live up to the standards of Clarity (easily their best CD) or even Bleed American. That said, I feel this CD does fall short. While there are many classic JEW moments, the majority of the CD just seems too poppy and way too polished for radio. The lyrics are fine, but Jim just doesn't sound sincere anymore, and this makes it difficult to believe what he is singing. The music for the most part is incredibly rudimentary, unlike Clarity which incorporated so many different sounds into making a truly epic work. Bleed American and Clarity both had very poppy songs, but conveyed a sense of despair throughout both CDs. The atmosphere on those CDs would best be described as "moody," but here the atmosphere is best described as "light-hearted." The band seems incredibly happy. Good for them, but I don't think it helped the music at all.

This isn't a bad CD, but I didn't expect JEW to sound so poppy so fast. Perhaps this will end up being their most radio-friendly CD, and they'll return to experimentation and try new and different things. But for now, this CD is just too poppy and boring for me. My copy of Clarity will continue to spend a large amount of time in my CD player.
