Like Weezer the four-piece Jimmy eat world ensure that this album has been embraced by the Emocore community. The opening track salt sweat sugar/bleed American is concise without being over emotional and has a great fast, catchy guitar riff with the lead singer Jim Adkins singing about being alone. A punked up song and an obvious choice for the bands first single from the album. The chorus in itself is a very catchy infectious one. A praise chorus opens with a great drum sound another fast song which changes style of singing near the end only to go back to the original style. A good song, not the best though. The middle another good choice for a single with Jim Adkins singing the chorus ``it just takes some time, little girl, you're in the middle of the ride everything will be just fine everything with be all right''. This is one of my favourite guitar songs on the album lyrically it is a good song too. The song ``you're house'' dives into acoustic folk territory with melodic vocals that sound perfect with the acoustic guitar and percussion, a great song on the album maybe one of the best. The next song ``Sweetness looks like an obvious choice for a single right from the start the loud verse ``if you're listening whohohoaaa'' and constant repetitive echo's of each line this is a powerful catchy song a type of power pop. ``Hear you hear me''. The second best song on the album. Another acoustic song, quiet a slow and emotional song but still very good not one of the best. ``If you don't, don't'' sounds a bit like an 80's song but with J.E.W.'s style added with a chorus that's so good it sounds as though it has been written before by a famous band. Half way through the song there is a female moaning sound before breaking back into a cool guitar riff. The next song ``get it faster'', this is my favourite song on the album it's amazing. Starts off with a palm muted guitar sound and slight beats of the drum, then the guitar riff is repeated until Jim Adkins finally starts singing a few notches above whispering which is the opening for the Catchiest chorus on this album `` I don't wanna thing from you Im going out I don't care if you're angry ohhhohhhhhh''. One of my favourite songs with a cool guitar interlude this sounds just a little bit like a clash song or something it could just be me. The next song `cautioners' is a deep woven one which is very harmonious and melodic and catchy as hell. The next song `the authority' is another great song on the album with a great chorus ``I don't seem obvious do I'' again it sounds like a girl singing in the background. A guitar riff which owes a lot to old school. Finally the last song `` My sundown'' is the great way to finish the album as if it's been one long journey listening to the album and this is finally the end, another slow emotional song with Jim singing again melodically a few notches above whisper, which sets the mood perfectly after listening to a perfectly polished off energetic emotional post-hardcore/pop crossover at it's most accessible with a great piano sound towards the end.
This is a great album you need to buy it if you've already got it you will probably never forget the infectiously catchy choruses to each song. Jimmy eat world are a great band and this is them at their best.
