All around good rock

The music: This album ranges from intense and high energy on such tracks as The Middle, Bleed American, and Your House to contemplative and sad in songs such as Hear You Me and My Sundown (my two personal favorites). Jimmy Eat World makes good use of a relentless rock rhythm reminiscent of adolescence and lyrics mature enough to lift any disc above the ordinary. While not hooked immediately, I soon found the songs going through my head and was unable to stop playing them. The only reason I gave this self-titled album four stars instead of five is that the general style struck me as repetitious.

The booklet: A short, unfolding strip with a somewhat bewildering collection of black and white photographs on one side and the lyrics and photographs of pieces of the artists' faces crammed on the other side.

The artists: I must admit, I'm totally new to this group. I never realized they existed until The Middle hit the radio, but I'm glad they were brought to my attention and will certainly be back for more.

In summary: A solid rock album with something for everyone.
