Well, I see a lot of reviews complaining that Jimmy Eat World has sold out and how all albums should be like this one. No they shouldn't. Jimmy has evolved, but they are still some of the most talented musicians of our era, however unsung they continue to be. I think that the reason everyone is so defensive about this album is because it is so incredibly emotional. Hmm, hence the emo label. You get the signature Jimmy talent that can be heard on every CD, plus some very tactful screaming. If you're looking for an album with real feelings involved, this is the disc for you. It's a standard every emo band should go off of. Another reason people will seemingly die for this album is because of the acute differences in some of the songs. Tom Linton, 2nd guitar player, actually shares about half the songs on this album. I'm guessing he not only sings them, but had written them as well as they are completely different from the style seen in Jim Adkins' songs. This is a rare commodity as he sings only one song on the next two albums (excluding the Singles album). Static Prevails is a necessity, not only for fans of Jimmy, but for people who want a different twist on what good music should be.
