This LP was a disappointment. The CD format is even a larger disappointment. This collection of songs opens up with a terribly abridged version of "Give Peace A Chance." The "reprise" at the end of this CD is nothing more than a tail end of John's live rendition of this song. Personally, I was expecting a lot more from "Shaved Fish."
To this CD's credit, it contains John's pre-1975 singles. Also, the CD kept the original LP cover, which provides an interesting and creative collection of "editorial cartoons" depicting each of the song's featured on this CD. However, by the same token, the material is definitely dated.
This CD offers 11 tracks (10 songs)...the CD "Lennon Legend - Very Best of John Lennon" contains every song on "Shaved Fish," except "Woman is the Nigger of the World." Furthermore, the "Lennon Legend" CD offers the listener 20 songs...Now before you start assuming that the extra 9 songs are from the Double Fantasy / Milk and Honey era; let me tell you that this is simply not the case. The "Lennon Legend" CD contains additional earlier recordings, such as John's classic ballad, "Working Class Hero."
I recommend you buy the "Lennon Legend" CD; you get a lot more for a little less. If you want the "Shaved Fish" album cover, then I suggest you shop around at flea markets or record shops that sell used LPs, and pick up a copy of "Shaved Fish."
