Outlandish Bush has never been renowend for accesible pop records & the release of this CD bamboozled even the most devoted fans. Pity, because it is, in my estimation one of the most wonderful albums ever, which showcases Bush's musical genius beyond parallel with quirky & meaningful lyrics & a voice which melts. Sat In Your Lap, the album's biggest UK Hit is a loud drum-driven song which delivers echoey vocals to a strong piano, drum & male-voice beat. There Goes A Tenner is a sarcastic cockney style song & the title track is weirdly wonderful. Top tracks are the gorgeous Night of the Swallow a Celtic style song about robbery & exile. The subject matter sounds weird but the song is gorgeous with a lilting Irish waltz underlying the lyrics. Perhaps Kate's best sing after Wutherin Heights. Suspended in Gaffa is quite an uplifting track with a fantastic hook & unsanctioned vocal techniques which are captivatingly original. 22 years after this album's release it is an increased fave in my collection (I was only 8 when I bought it on album!!!) & have enjoyed it ever since. Bush is one of Britain's biggest musical icons - up there with Bowie, Elton John & Sting - as a musical doyenne. Recently acknowledged by British Music-Lover's Bible, Q Magazine, as a legend (& honoured for it in a very rare public appearance), this sadly misunderstood musical genius demonstrates here why she became a superstar at 18 & why despite her intermittent studio releases her fans never forsake her. They let her be, but some back when she calls. Divine, sublime & every rhetorical word you can think of, this work may go down as one of the most under-rated albums ever.
