Kelly Clarkson won the ever so popular TV show American Idol in September of 2002. While on the show she sang powerhouse songs, her album, though, THANKFUL, does not have a good display of this. The disc opens with "The Trouble With Love Is," The love theme from the hit movie Love Actually. This is an awesome ballad that Kelly sings very well, but after a while, it gets boring. The next song up is Kelly's first single off the album. "Miss Independent" was a smash single with seductive verses and a powerful, overwhelming chorus. This song was co-written by Christina Aguilera. "Low," the third track on the disc, may be the best song on the entire album. She puts a more rock sound into this song and it works. The next, and possibly worst song on the album, is "Some Kind Of Miracle." The song is boring and just doesn't fit with he rest. "What's Up Lonely," the fifth track somewhat fits and is an okay song. The song is R&B and very jazzy. Next up, is "Just Missed the Train," another one of the more rock songs on the album. This is also one of the best songs on the disc with a booming guitar solo and great vocals by Kelly. The next song, "Beautiful Disaster," is not one of Kelly's best. It is just plain boring. "You Thought Wrong," the eighth track off THANKFUL, is an amazing song featuring the amazing vocal talents of Tamyra Gray, one of Kelly's fellow American Idol contestants. This is also one of the better songs on the disc. It is very different sounding with a very pop beat. The next and title track, "Thankful," is a great song but just doesn't fit in with the rest of the songs. "Anytime," the tenth track is the best ballad on the disc. This song proves Kelly's vocal talents. This was also the love theme from Kelly's movie, From Justin to Kelly. The next song, "A Moment Like This," was Kelly's winning songvfrom American Idol. It is a beautiful ballad, but doesn not give you a good look at what Kelly's voice can do. "Before Your Love," the twelfth and last track on the disc, is very good and displays Kelly's vocal talents. On overview, the best songs on the disc are "Miss Independent," "Low," "Just Missed the Train," "You Thought Wrong," "Anytime," and "Before Your Love." The rest of the songs are just filler songs. The vocal talents of Kelly Clarkson are absolutely amazing, as shown on the TV show American Idol, but they aren't shown on this album. It is still a great album to have though.
