What Am I Missing Here???

Okay, I am not sure how I came to possess this cd, but while cleaning up in the basement I found it and popped it in. I'm sorry, maybe King Crimson is an acquired taste, but I found "Lizard" to be hardly listenable. I mean the first three songs sound as if you have a recording of a band of insane asylum inmates who have no clue what "melody" means, and if they happen to stumble across something resembling coherant music, a jarring keyboard riff will disrupt the song. At times it sounds as if each member of the band is playing a different song that does not gel together. And to top it off you have the lead singer who sounds...well he sound just like some middle aged guy singing in the shower, he has no range, outside of "whisper" and "monotone boredom". Jon Anderson from Yes makes a cameo here, a brief one that only confirms my belief that Jon Anderson sang on every record that came out in 1970. I like Captain Beefheart, I like Gentle Giant, so I am not a stranger to off the wall music, but this wasn't off the wall....it's just awful. Maybe I am missing something, but I can't imagine anyone sober or sane listening to this thing!!
