I say, if you're going to wear your influences on your sleeve, at least do it well and Lenny Kravitz is an absolute genius at it. His sophomore set opens with "Fields Of Joy" a 3 part jam (acoustic folk/charging rocker/soul ballad) that easily trumps everything else he'd done up to this point and lays out the pattern he would follow throughout the remainder of this LP. Alternating between heavy late 60's/early 70's rock,vintage soul, folk balladry and jazz (the brilliant "What Goes Around Comes Around")Kravitz covers all the bases like he's conducting a class Pop Music 101, in fact, he really is a music professor! "Mama Said" is enjoyable beyond belief, and stands as a true classic. Go Get It!
