(8/10)This is my personal favorite Cohen album, though I have to dock it a star for a couple of tunes I find lacking. But the rest of this album is premium grade, from the opening torrent of "Avalanche", through the near-suicide anthem "Dress Rehearsal Rag", to the sad beauty (how very Leonard) of "Famous Blue Raincoat" and "Joan of Arc". I think this is the album where Cohen really found his voice, and it was "old and bitter".
