Lil Jon & East Side Boyz

Kings of Crunk

We Smoke ... Everyday!

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (10/10)
I'm really heavy into southern music, and every so often you get an artist or group that takes the coast by storm. Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz have been the latest group to do that, and with their double platinum LP "Kings Of Crunk" they've cemented their legacy. There's a reason these three are the most hyped boys from the south at the momment - they're truly rowdy and this album is outstanding. I know it gets a lot of bashing about it's content and such, but you Lil Jon, Big Sam and Lil Bo only claim to get you crunk. And they've lived up to that claim with "Kings Of Crunk".

Lil Jon is probably the biggest producer in the south - there's a reason: he's stunning - so you know that the beats on this album will be off the chain, no questions asked. These three boys come up with the grimiest, hardest crunk chants so you can join in with each song after the first listen. I loved it after the first listen, and I still bump it in the ride on a regular.

There's not a single wack or unlistenable joint on this album and all of them are ridin'. Everyone's heard "Get Low" by now, with it's infectious hook and crunk to death verses from the Ying Yang Twins. "I Don't Give A ..." is another cut that just tears up the club whenever it's thrown on, and Mystikal and Krayzie Bone rip this up. DSGB's Pastor Troy drops two stunning verses on "Throw It Up", which is followed by another two great verses, this time from The LOX's Jadakiss and Styles P.

About halfway through the album, Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz slow it down a bit, but keep it crunk as hell though. "The Weedman" is a stunning joint about looking for ya dope boy, and this is the perfect joint to smoke to smoke to. Lil Jon's singing protege on BME Records, Oobie, rips the next three cuts to shreds with her soulful voice. "Nothin' On", "Nothin's Free" and is aided by Devin The Dude on "Ooh Na Na Naa Naa".

I could go on for the days about how good this album is. It truly is ridin', and if you're looking for an album to help get you into southern music, this could be just the ticket. If you're looking for somethin' to bump bump bump in ya trunk, bump on summer nights or that gets you crunk this IS just the ticket.

Pick it up. 5 stars - Dirrty South classic.
