Kings of Crunk

Mind numbing, redundant and monotonous

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (4/10)
I'll start with the positive. This cd has a few really catchy party starting beats. The single, 'Get Low' and a few other songs will force even devoted wallflowers to shake their hips and do a two-step. Another major highlight is hearing Big Gipp from Goodie Mob rap on 'Keep yo Chullin (Children) out the Street'. It doesn't get much countrier or soulful than this but then again, what else would you expect from Gipp. 'Nothin on' and 'Ooh Na Na Naa Naa' are both pretty good freaky R&B tracks which really stand out until you get to the raps. These songs like the rest of this album are all down hill from there. The rest of this album can be described as loud and obnoxious which doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing, but the music itself is so bad that it ends up being an absolutely horrible thing. Most of the music and the lyrics on this album display absolutely no thought or ingenuity. I've loved hip hop for a long time and that is why it truly pains me to hear stuff like this. There has been a pervasive dumbing down of mainstream rap music that I don't quite understand. I think that something similar happened to rock music in the eighties with the big hair bands and all and rock-n-roll pulled out of it...sort of. I remain hopefull that rap music will do the same. But as far as this album goes, this album is full of insanely monotonous beats and mindlessly aggressive screaming and ranting about proving that my hood is harder than your hood...that's pretty much it. If your into that kind of "music", then this is something that is o.k. to listen while going out on a Friday or Saturday night, otherwise be warned to stear clear.
