Linkin Park

Collision Course (with Jay-Z)

Official Mash-Up the wave of the future

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
I for one have been a fan of mash-up for the last 4 years. Many of them have been illegal and done by people just like me and you. In fact I did a mash up of Madonnas Die Another Day with Moby's James Bond Theme. Are thes illegal, yes if you sell them. But anybody can do it with a program like Acid 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, and many others like it.

Anyways for the last year and a half or so, they have begun to become bigger, and one of the people who have allowed it so, is Jay-Z with the release of his Black Album "Accapella" Vocals only. And he urged DJ's to play with it. Since then we had the amazing Danger Mouse Grey Album, with Elements of the Beatles White Album mixed to support Jay's flow, very cool. Since then we have had Weezer + Jay-z = Black and Blue album, very funny, and Metallica + Jay-Z = Black on Black album. Each of these haev been fun, but none really brilliant except for the Grey Album, which I think works better then Jay's original release. There are literally hundreds unofficial mash-ups of that album available on the internet.

Now The king hinself decides to work together with a semi-talented Linkin Park (get rid of Chester already, his screaming and whinning ruins your music)for a MTV show and an EP which is almost flawless.

Now the EP is long for an EP 6 songs. Many people are mad thinking this is an LP a regular release but it is not. The higher price, 12 bucks, is actually really good for a full dvd and EP together.

Anyway, This EP works suprising well as a fair mash up between the 2 styles and forms of music. My only complaints come from 1. CHESTER CHESTER CHESTER YOU SUCK!!!! Please Linkin get rid of him, Shinoda you can sing just as well as Chester, his annoying screaming is played out and ruins songs, especially
2. the last track 99 Problems and One Step Closer is horrible. first off Jay's vocal is turned down to low, and the music is too fast and hard for his flow, it just sucks!!!!

Other then that I thoroughly enjoyed the first 5 songs. The DVD is also very intereting, and shows everyone that Mike SHinoda is the Master of Linkin Park, and is underrated for his talent. His recent remix of Enjoy The SIlence from the Depeche Mode Remix Album is amazing.

The documentary in the studio as well as the live footage is awesome. Also seeing the live song next to the studio fottage for that individual song in the special features is cool too.

Overall, great EP, it's fun, and quirky, and the dvd is also very interesting as well. Hopefully this will start a new trend of legal authorized mash-up, I think that would be awesome, just please, no more Eminem Mash Ups with old songs and crap like that, Eminem literally has 1,000 Mah-ups of Shady's Back from 3 years ago. Anyway, that is my 3 cents!!
