Hybrid Theory is catchy, to the point and accessible. It is no surprise that it was such a big hit with the general public. The album mixes a little techno with rap rock and pop melodies.

The DJ often lays down much of the beat with the drummer playing simple bass drum/snare rhythms. The electric guitar is rather simple, playing riffs that range from mediocre to catchy at times(One step closer). The bass follows the guitar. All the instruments basically take a back seat to the vocals of rapper Mike Shinoda and the rough/screechy singing of Chester Bennington. The rap is OK but the melodies are not bad. However, they are quite poppish.

The problem with this album is that the songs are repetitive. But it isn't the same 12 songs over and over again like on Meteora. Some songs are a bad as it is onlittle different from the others. However, the quality varies unlike on Meteora(where most of the songs are OK but not great). Points of Authority, Pushing Me Away, and Runaway are all decent but somewhat forgettable. The other songs are mostly unremarkable to just bad. In the End, One Step Closer and Crawling are overplayed and annoying. There are no truly horrendous tracks on this album, but there aren't any classics here IMO. I got bored of this fast. Overall, this album is catchy and commerical but unfulfilling.
