Firstly lets get the Nu-Metal label out of the way. Ok now Slipknot it Nu-Metal. There really is no comparing Linkin Park to slipknot. It's a completely different sound. It's like callin The Beatles hardcore punk. The nu-metal label is foolish. Secondly why should a band have to keep to the same style throughout their albums? It gets boring if the sound is exactly the same as previous albums. Led Zeppelins first 2 albums, for the most part were of the Blues style. However they then turned to the heavier scene. What made them such a good band was the ability to change their style. Linkin Park have managed to do this, just not on such a grand scale. If they kept the style completely the same, other fans would get put off. Either way there will always be someone who complains. Once again the timeless crap about the average Linkin Park fan being 12. Can't you rant about something different? Basically when I saw Linkin Park, the average age of fans was round about 18. There were a fair few in the crowd aged about 20-30. The lyrics are very thought provoking if you bother to listen to them. Which is more than can be said for the mindless crap that is coming from your average run of the mill bands. I mean seriously even newer bands such as The Darkness hardly have any meaningful lyrics. The theme of the album is not unlike Hybrid Theory with, excuse the overused phrase "teenage angst". It is actually a message of hope to a lot of people. You've heard people say that artists music has changed their lives and why shouldn't it? As many know Chester had a bad childhood, not unlike Eminem. The difference being that Linkin Park was able to get their message across without having to litter their album with swearing and violent lyrics. And this message really comes across in the new album. Breaking the Habit could be linked to drug abuse and how its a good thing to become free of such substances. They have managed to increase the 'heaviness' in some areas and mellowed down a number of songs. Like many albums, it takes a while to get used to it. Not that the songs are bad, they're just different. If you call yourself a Linkin Park fan, buy this album. If the only reason you liked their previous album was based solely on the rap or metal content, don't bother with this one.
