Linkin Park became popular four years ago, in the fall of 2000: a perfect time for them. Nu-metal was still a major force in the music industry (while now it is the source of many punchlines). Yes, those were the good ol' days, when tons of talentless bands clogged the radio and TRL. However, most of these whiners such as Limp Bizkit and Korn have lost their popularity and are as despised and made-fun-of as the kitschy hair metal losers of the 80's. So why is Linkin Park still popular? Their vocalist can't sing, their lyrics suck, their piano- and keyboard-tinged bits are cheesy, and their attempt to incorporate industrial metal and dance music into their rock is annoying! Their lyrics are so incredibly repetitive. All of them sound the same: "Look at me, I'm a miserable 13-year-old, nobody understands me, I have bad personal hygiene, and this girl doesn't love me." Naturally, these guys (in their 20's) don't feel this way, they just know that they'll sell out easily to wanna-be rebel high schoolers who shop at Hot Topic and dye their hair ugly colors. These guys aren't true rockers deep inside either. A true rock lover would know that collaborating with someone like Jay-Z is completely selling out (the wrong way) and blaspheming against the art of rock. A true rocker also doesn't make music for discos and night clubs. I just hope that 20 years from now music journalists won't see LP as being the Pink Floyd of their day. If you want real rock, TRL is not the place to look.
