Lou Reed shows what he can do

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
For anyone who is wondering why there is so much hype surrounding Lou Reed and his relationship with music, turn to New York, released in early 1989. The album consists of 14 songs meant to be listened to at once and in order, and what songs they are. After listening to these songs, you will know that the social conscience of Rock music was not lost, only burried beneath the glam of the 1980's. And even with the social issues that Lou brings up in every one of his songs, I never felt as if Lou Reed was preaching to me. Lou Reed is one of those rare song writiers who are capable of sending a message, and being 100% sincere about the whole thing.

Lou Reed spins some really good tales on New York, and the best part is, it is live rock and roll. Two guitars, bass, and drums. The album as an album works, but if you are looking for stand-out songs, chech the title track, Dirty Blvd, and Last Great American Whale.
