After the lukewarm response to EROTICA, Madonna forged ahead and again chose another musical form--r&b/hip-hop--to convey her music. That said, BEDTIME STORIES remains my personal favorite Madonna album to date, if only because there is not one piece of filler to be found. From the gorgeous opening grooves of 'Survival' to the closing of 'Take A Bow', this record is all about substance. Addressing her personal life in much the same way she did with LIKE A PRAYER, she not only tributes her mother on the beautiful 'Inside of Me', but snaps back at her critics with 'Human Nature', a biting and almost tongue-in-cheek take on what she thinks about said critics, proclaiming "Oops I didn't know I couldn't talk about sex....Oops, I didn't know I couldn't talk about YOU". It truly remains one of her most brilliant records, and was unjustly overlooked at radio. All in all, an album that should go down as one of her masterpieces(along with LIKE A PRAYER and RAY OF LIGHT).
