Madonna

Bedtime Stories

One of her best albums--has strong R&B feel

Review Score: StarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStarStar (8/10)
I thought that Bedtime Stories was a good album by Madonna, a little better than her overly sexual Erotica album of 1992. There's a huge R&B influence here, versus the Patrick Leonard/Stephen Bray huge pop dominance of her '80s albums. And she sounded superb on songs like Survival, Secret, Inside of Me, the funky Human Nature, Don't Stop and others. I liked her songs with Dave Hall, one of '94-95's best and underrated R&B producers. He had a lot of songs around that time. I like the closing three, how Sanctuary fades out and Bedtime Story enters in. And the final song, Take A Bow-- When I found out that Babyface was on it, I went, It's going to Number 1!--and it did happen! Ten years later, I still hear it on radio stations and stores--still a gorgeous ballad from her! The album blended very well with the R. Kelly dominance that took so much of mainstream radio. It shows how she's so good at reinventing and changing her look for each album that she does.
